Before & after

Before After
Freeform villa pool, reinforcement to handover. Before: An aerial view of a freeform villa pool under construction, showing the curved shuttering, steel reinforcement mesh and workers on site. After: The same freeform pool finished, filled with clear turquoise water and framed by a pale marble deck with loungers.

The challenge

A curved shell is harder than a rectangle at every stage — the shuttering has to hold the radius, the reinforcement has to follow it, and the coping has to be cut to it. Getting the setting out right is most of the job.

What we did

Set out and excavate the curve, build the shuttering to the radius, fix the reinforcement and first-fix pipework, pour and cure, then waterproof and test before tiling. Marble deck and coping cut to the curve last.

The result

A freeform pool with a clean edge line, a shallow shelf for sitting in, and a deck laid to fall away from the water.
